Acme Packing Company
All year, I’ve had fun tracking what I call the “Hafley Cam” during games. You know it. It’s the shot of Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley up in the crow’s nest during a big defensive moment. On my podcast, I placed a few silly prop bets related to the Hafley Cam. Do we see him drinking Diet Coke more than once this season? What about a Redbull? Another prop was related to Hafley being talked about as a head coach candidate during a Hafley Cam shot. While we fell just short on our beverage props this year (one instance total for each beverage, if you’re curious), we hit our head coach prop midway through the first game of the season.
I tell you this for two reasons. Firstly, to get an easy plug in for my podcast. Second is that as the Packers head into the playoffs this year, it seems likelier than ever that Hafley will be a finalist for an open head coaching job.
In fact, my colleague Evan “Tex” Western already wrote about the first interview request being made official by the Tennessee Titans.
Other teams are sure to follow. Vacancies as of today also include Baltimore, Miami, Atlanta, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Arizona, and the New York Giants. Talk about a bloodbath.
This has put me in a rather reflective mood. Jeff Hafley has been a breath of fresh air for Packers fans after years in the DC wilderness. He may not have his star pass rusher, but I am genuinely curious to see what Hafley cooks up against the Bears (and beyond, if they win), with everything on the line, and with a slew of coach-needy execs watching closely. Show us what you’ve got, Haf.
And if you could also make sure to drink a Diet Coke or a Redbull on camera Saturday, that’d be swell, too. Thanks, bud.
