The backup QB situation has been addressed

While moving around the board during the 2025 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings also appear to have addressed their backup quarterback situation with the acquisition of Sam Howell from the Seattle Seahawks.

Howell has starting experience in the NFL, as he started all 17 games for the Washington Commanders in 2023, his second season in the NFL. He took a lot of sacks that season, a league-leading 65, and also threw a league-leading 21 interceptions that season. He also threw 21 touchdown passes for the Commanders in that season.

The Commanders then traded Howell to the Seahawks during the 2024 offseason. Howell appeared in only one game for the Seahawks last year.

It would appear, at least on the surface, that Howell does have some decent ability but doesn’t seem to be too much of a threat to unseat J.J. McCarthy for the starting quarterback job. Perhaps he’ll benefit from being the latest enrollee in the Kevin O’Connell School for Quarterbacks Who Can’t Throw Good and Who Want To Learn To Do Other Stuff Good, Too.

In any case, we want to know what you think of the trade, folks! Do you like the acquisition of Sam Howell? Let us know by voting in the poll and sounding off in the comments!
