49ers RB Isaac Guerendo, CB Renardo Green stand out in return to practice
“Just prior to the 49ers breaking into 11-on-11 work, Shanahan called the team up to deliver a message. The 49ers did not practice Sunday or Monday, and he wanted to set the tone for the day of work. “Sometimes it takes halfway through practice and you got to call guys up and say, ‘Hey, guys, get your crap together,’” Shanahan said. “I wanted to make sure I got that out of the way before (practice) started.”

Kyle Shanahan provides updates as 49ers prepare for preseason finale
“San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters Monday, following the team’s 16th practice of training camp. The 49ers are preparing for their preseason finale—a home matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Here’s everything he had to say.”

He’s been the standout of the 49ers’ preseason, so why might he get cut? (paywall)
“On Saturday, Lucas was captured on the sideline after his interception telling teammates he’d predicted his pick. In the locker room, he told reporters his exhaustive pregame homework allowed him to anticipate quarterback Aidan O’Connell’s throw and jump in front of wide receiver Alex Bachman.

“I read it perfectly,” Lucas said. “I just broke underneath him. And … he threw me a perfect pass right into my hands. I’ve got to thank him for that.”

Shanahan has termed Lucas the team’s “Energizer Bunny” because he rarely stops moving and, perhaps, talking? Lucas doesn’t just talk after takeaways, he does so after missed tackles. On Saturday, after he couldn’t bring down Shedrick Jackson, Lucas jumped up and began barking at the wide receiver after his 9-yard reception. Raiders’ All-Pro pass rusher Maxx Crosby, who had just joined the team’s television broadcast, didn’t approve.

“That dude’s talking too much over there for getting bullied,” Crosby said.

Lucas, as the kids say, can be a lot. But that’s partly because he’s had enough. Spending last season on the practice squad, he said, marked a turning point in his career.“

With Mac Jones hurt, 49ers sign another QB, weigh playing Brock Purdy in finale (paywall) “Purdy and Ricky Pearsall picked up where they left off Saturday, with Purdy hitting the receiver on three consecutive throws in the red zone. Pearsall also hauled in a dazzling, Willie Mays-style catch at the sideline despite good coverage from Brown. Tight end George Kittle made a similar catch — also from Purdy — in the same area of the field against linebacker Luke Gifford.“
