Neither Jauan Jennings nor 49ers win or lose in contract struggle’s conclusion
“And, now, Jennings still is in his contract year but with the ability to put a little more cash in his pocket this season and set himself for a major payday as a free agent in March.

“I think I said at the beginning of training camp how badly myself and everyone in this building wants Jauan back in the long term,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said on Wednesday.

That long-term union appears less likely with this stop-gap agreement.

If Jennings remains healthy and productive, it seems likely he will price himself out of the 49ers’ market.

But the 49ers will benefit from having him on the field for what could be one final season together.“

Jauan Jennings ready to face Seahawks as 49ers contemplate which WRs play Week 1
““He looked good on Monday, getting back into it,” Shanahan said. “Having all that time off, we got to ease him in. So we’ll see how this week goes. That’s why he’ll be limited today. He’s healthy enough to play football and hopefully that continues.”

Kyle Shanahan previews 49ers-Seahawks Week 1 matchup
“San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed reporters ahead of Wednesday’s practice as the team gears up for its Week 1 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Here’s everything he said.”

What we’re seeing from the 49ers: Healthy, hungry stars make for plenty of optimism (paywall)
“Reporters stand outside in the sun at training camp practices — most of which are not that exciting — and need something to write or yell into their cell phone cameras about. And this year, it was the injuries and how incredible Pearsall looked every day.

He was out there at practice every day and did look good, but — sorry, fantasy football people — it sure seemed like the hype and jump to No. 1 receiver status was premature. Pearsall is very quick and will still catch a fair number of passes, but physical corners will have some success against him, and Jennings’ return allows the 49ers to not put too much on Pearsall’s plate after all.“

Robert Saleh’s challenging charge: Make 49ers’ iffy defensive plan look astute (paywall)
“There’s an element with him of foreseeing what we’re going to need,” Bosa said. “And then repping it throughout training camp and getting good at the techniques. So when we need to pull something out it’s not like, ‘Oh, throw him in that gap and throw an extra guy on the line of scrimmage.’ It’s like, ‘This is the call. And we’ve had five practices doing it in camp.’ When the season starts, we’ll have the answers for a lot of stuff.”

The 49ers should benefit from Saleh’s deep knowledge of their 4-3 scheme after a lack of such expertise was a major reason why Shanahan became the first 49ers head coach in at least 50 years to fire defensive coordinators in back-to-back seasons. After the 2023 season, Shanahan fired...
