Kyle Shanahan provides updates as 49ers prepare for Raiders preseason game
“The 49ers are preparing for their preseason matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Here’s everything he had to say.”

Matt Maiocco’s 53-man roster projection after 49ers’ preseason game vs. Broncos
“NFL teams must trim their rosters to the regular-season limit of 53 by Aug. 26. There is still a lot for the 49ers to sort out, but here is one opinion of how things look right now.”

49ers WR injuries keep adding up: Jordan Watkins out with high-ankle sprain (paywall)
“Some positive news at the position: Jacob Cowing, who suffered a hamstring strain on the first day of training camp, tested well in a Sunday workout and should be back in practice Tuesday. If that goes well, he’ll take part in the joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday and the preseason game there Saturday.

The joint practice remains on the schedule, though it might not be as comprehensive as last week’s session with the Broncos. For example, the 49ers were so short on receivers Monday that they eliminated one-on-one drills from their practice routine and had a decidedly shorter-than-usual practice.“

49ers’ Shanahan offers timeline for Aiyuk return; injury to Watkins adds to WR woes (paywall)
“Shanahan was asked if the 49ers will look to sign an established wideout such as Amari Cooper, 31, the top pass-catcher on the market. Cooper, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, was part of discussions with the Browns last year when the 49ers were exploring trading Aiyuk.

Shanahan mentioned the 49ers’ salary cap as a potential roadblock to a higher-profile signing. The 49ers have about $49 million in cap space, the second-most in the NFL, but Shanahan said that’s a deceiving number that doesn’t account for finances such as in-season bonuses that haven’t been paid. In addition, the 49ers are looking to roll over cap space into 2026, when they’ll face a more challenging cap situation.“

Jordan Watkins’ ankle injury derails momentum, knocks 49ers WR out for one month

“One of the newest 49ers helped turn in the top defensive play of practice on Monday. Defensive lineman Trevis Gipson, signed Monday, tipped a Purdy pass attempt at the line of scrimmage. Defensive end Nick Bosa was there to gather in the interception.”

Fiery cornerback Chase Lucas aiming to help 49ers any way he can in 2025

“Saleh told me, ‘I’m going to let it rip.’ And I said, ‘If you’re going to let it rip, I’m going to show you some things.’ He stuck to his word,” Lucas said, “and it ended up working in our favor.”

But when asked about what plays meant the most to him on Saturday, Lucas focused on something different.

“Everybody’s going to talk about the (pass broken up) and the safety,” Lucas said. “My favorite plays were the run fits. I messed up on the run fits during the joint practice, and I took pride in that. I told Saleh, ‘Look, these next two days...
