Good morning, New York Giants fans!
“I mean, obviously, he’s a freak athlete on the field. He shows that every day. A lot of guys with that type of talent, some of them might pick and choose when they’re gonna show it, and he never does that,” said inside linebacker Micah McFadden. “Even when the coaches and the strength staff says, ‘OK, we’ve got to decrease the workload because Burns is going too hard,’ you don’t hear that often about one of your star athletes. He brings that type of energy every day. He’s not the leader who’s looking to get up in your face every single time if you do something wrong. But when there’s something that needs to be said, he’s one of the persons who will step up and say it.”
There is some concern that Nabers’ practice absence could negatively impact his chemistry with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, but the 10-time Pro Bowler dismissed that notion.
“Malik and I have gotten a lot of time together. I trust his work ethic, his ability to get open. Obviously, I’ve spent a lot of time with him, throwing the football. When he is out there and when he has been, we’ve been lights out on everything that we’ve done. I think he’s been special for us,” Wilson said.
If it were up to me, I would let this competition play out while knowing Wilson is probably the favorite to win the job. You have to wonder how long his leash is, though. Jaxson Dart played well in his first preseason action. In fact, he was the Giants’ best quarterback on Saturday. The Ole Miss product completed 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards and one touchdown and also led the Giants in rushing with 24 yards on three carries. Dart has a capable arm and is mobile, but can he read NFL defenses and throw with the anticipation needed at this level? That remains to be seen. If Wilson is benched, I bet Dart is chosen to replace him. But according to the Giants, this is Wilson’s job barring injury.
