Good morning, New York Giants fans!
“Brian Daboll runs a totally different offense with him as quarterback than Russell Wilson,” said former NFL linebacker Manti Te’o on Monday’s Good Morning Football. “If you watch that game, Russell Wilson runs a traditional hand the ball off, play-action, let’s get the ball downfield. When Jaxson Dart comes in the game, it’s more like college and there are more RPOs (run-pass options).”
Te’o also noticed the designed runs called for Dart and complimented his “makeup,” showing the ability to bounce back from nearly throwing an interception on a drive early in the second quarter and throwing an accurate ball to wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey for a 28-yard touchdown.
The Giants have to feel good about their biggest additions this offseason. Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, rookie QB Jaxson Dart (No. 25) and rookie linebacker Abdul Carter (No. 3) had successful debuts versus Buffalo.
Dart was most impressive of all. He was decisive and efficient, completing 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards with a touchdown. The score came on a 29-yard strike down the left sideline to receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey with pressure in his face. He also rushed three times for 24 yards. Wilson, meanwhile, led the Giants to a field goal on his only drive, while Carter had a pair of pressures on six snaps. New York couldn’t have drawn it up better.
QB Jaxson Dart C+. Dart struggled with his accuracy at times against the Bills but was able to move the offense. He threw behind Greg Dulcich on third down, sailed a pass off his back foot and went low and wide on another throw. Dart did not get his longer sideline throws outside, though one became his first NFL touchdown pass because it was over the top against man coverage. His best throw came in the second quarter after the two-minute warning, with the No. 25 overall pick sliding in the pocket and delivering an 18-yard dig route for a first down. Dart had two passes batted down, but his athleticism proved valuable in avoiding sacks and scrambling for solid gains.
