What we learned from NFL offseason workouts: One key observation for every team | The Athletic

This pass rush could be a game-changer. The Giants have lacked an identity during the first three years of the Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll era. There has been nothing the team could rely on to give it an advantage, and the result has been a combined nine wins over the past two seasons. That may have changed this offseason. The defense was upgraded by the free-agent signings of cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland. But the selection of outside linebacker Abdul Carter with the No. 3 pick in the draft could be a game-changer. Teaming Carter with Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux should give the Giants a pass rush capable of dominating games.

Jaxson Dart is closer to playing than expected. When New York moved up to spend a first-round pick on the Ole Miss quarterback in April, plenty anticipated Dart sitting most, if not all, of his 2025 rookie season behind both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. But Dart flashed his dual-threat upside as the No. 2 this spring, and now word is it’s only a matter of time before coach Brian Daboll, apparently one of Dart’s biggest fans, turns to the first-year passer altogether.

25) Brian Daboll, New York Giants Brian Daboll’s head coaching tenure with the New York Giants has been a tale of diminishing returns. Following an impressive 9-7-1 debut in 2022, which included a playoff win, expectations skyrocketed. But since then, Daboll has gone just 9-25 over the past two seasons.

New York’s offense has ranked in the bottom three in scoring in each of the last two seasons, and the defense ranked 31st in PFSN’s Defense+ metric in 2024. Though Daboll’s tenure with the Giants hasn’t been long, it’s beginning to seem like his brief early success was more of an outlier than the foundation for something special.
