Brian Daboll makes change to Giants’ practice routine on Russell Wilson’s suggestion | New York Post

This spring, the Giants are going with an increased number of 7-on-7 reps. Head coach Brian Daboll added this in after new quarterback Russell Wilson made the suggestion.

“That’s something that Russell feels really good about,” Daboll said Thursday. “We’ve added some competitive periods where they have to play the situations out. Not that we didn’t do that, but we’ve placed a little bit more emphasis on it. And not just a third-down situation, but maybe a quarter in a game, time left, score. We’ve done pretty much, I’d say every day we’ve done a little bit of that.”

Russell Wilson’s positivity has stood out to Tracy, who says the quarterback emphasizes that making mistakes is “what practice is for.”

“Every time he walks into the media room, he greets everybody,” Tracy said. “It starts with that. That is the main thing I see with Russ. He’s very intentional with what he does. He speaks to everybody. No matter if you’re starting or you’re No. 3, he treats you like you’re the starting person.”

Wilson enters the situation with the expectation of being the starter, but this season is all about Dart and what he shows. he clock will be ticking for Dart’s eventual insertion into the lineup. As seen in the last two seasons, neither Wilson nor Winston remain capable of significantly elevating the play of others around them. Ultimately, the Ole Miss product will be moved into the lineup so New York can determine its long-term direction.

QB Jaxson Dart, Giants. The Giants traded up into the first round to secure Dart. There had been rumors of the front office and coaching staff's infatuation with the quarterback prior to draft night and leadership has done nothing to hide those feelings post-selection. Dart may be the key to coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen's fate beyond this season, as well.
