New York Giants news for Thursday
Good morning New York Giants fans!
53. DI Dexter Lawrence, New York Giants. Lawrence continues to play like one of the best defensive tackles in football, earning a top-three grade at the position for the third straight season. In fact, he was the only interior defender in the league with 80-plus grades both as a pass-rusher and run defender in 2024. Lawrence’s nine sacks on the season were the third most among defensive tackles as well.
59. WR Malik Nabers, New York Giants. Nabers was the best receiver in college football last year at LSU, and he was the NFL’s best rookie receiver this season. His 1,204 receiving yards ranked seventh among all receivers in the league in 2024 while his 86.7 PFF grade was eighth. Nabers was especially dangerous after the catch, placing third in receiving yards after contact (256) and fifth in forced missed tackles (19). The Giants drafted an LSU receiver in the first round 10 years ago in Odell Beckham Jr., and it looks like they struck gold again with the same exact method.
A team does not have to lead the pack in quarterback play, but it must not lag blatantly behind if it hopes to compete with those in its own backyard. This means the Giants have a ridiculous amount of catching up to do.
The Giants cannot hope to make any inroads in the NFC East with far and away the worst quarterback situation in their own division.
Trade Up to No. 1 Overall. The Giants are hardly positioned to contend next year, and Stafford is not a long-term solution. If New York is going to start throwing picks around, it makes more sense to make a play for Tennessee's first overall selection and a choice of quarterbacks. If If that's all it takes and the Giants become enamored with Sanders or Ward, general manager Joe Schoen should go get his guy.
Who will their next quarterback be? If they had lost one...
