Giants Have Surprising Trade Deadline Stance Despite 2-6 Start

The New York Giants sit at 2-6 and last in the NFC East, but will they become sellers at the trade deadline?

Despite losing two of their top offensive stars for the season in wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Cam Skattebo, and facing teams with winning records over the next five weeks, the Giants aren’t looking to collect future assets.

“I have not gotten the sense they are in sell mode. They have gotten calls on Kayvon Thibodeaux. They have not wanted to trade him. He would be the logical trade piece if you were going to deal anybody,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said on “The Rich Eisen Show.” “So I’m not really bracing for anything major of substance there.”

Thibodeaux Hasn’t Met Expectations

Thibodeaux, whom the Giants selected fifth overall in the 2022 draft, hasn’t lived up to his draft pedigree. He has just one double-digit sack season in his four years with the Giants and has recorded only 2.5 sacks through eight games this season.

A wrist injury limited him to 12 games in 2024. He’s also seen his defensive snaps decline from 87% in 2023 to 75% in 2024 and 73% in 2025.

Even though Thibodeaux hasn’t performed to the standards the Giants expected, the franchise picked up his fifth-year option, keeping him under control through 2026.

In 51 games with the Giants, Thibodeaux has recorded 23.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 13 pass breakups, 31 tackles for loss and 55 quarterback hits.

The Giants’ refusal to sell signals they believe they can salvage the season with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, despite the mounting losses and brutal upcoming schedule.
