There are Giants fans who would agree with that sentiment

As the 2-12 New York Giants trudge toward the finish line of a miserable season one of the things they have to do before it ends is face the Michael Penix Jr.-led Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. So, this week’s ‘5 questions’ segment is with Tre’Shon Diaz of SB Nation’s The Falcoholic. Let’s get to it.

Ed: How would you describe the season so far for the Falcons? I would think there is some disappointment after a 6-3 start.

Tre’Shon: It’s just your standard run-of-the-mill season from the Atlanta Falcons. We’ve seen them mismanage their assets and money, go through a horrific season collapse, and fans are hanging on by a thread, hoping the newest direction will solve everything. So yeah, you could say things have been disappointing, but on a deeper level, nothing has changed for fans who have sat through this franchise’s demise over the last seven years, and few things give them hope for the future.

Ed: Kirk Cousins has been struggling, and head coach Raheem Morris called him out on Monday night. Would the fan base be in favor of seeing Michael Penix at QB?

(Note: This question was sent before the switch to Penix was announced)

Tre’Shon: Well, it’s Penix time, whether fans favor it or not, but based on early reactions, Dirty Bird Nation is ecstatic. The sunk cost fallacy finally lost the battle, and the team benched Kirk Cousins after another abysmal performance. There are always concerns with playing a rookie; mistakes will happen, and there will be questionable passes at times, but that’s the kind of play Atlanta has gotten from Cousins, so at this point, there really is nothing to lose.

Ed: If you could take one player off the Giants’ roster and put him in Atlanta’s lineup, who would it be? Why? Feel free to consider players on IR.

Tre’Shon: Brian Burns would be my top selection. I watched Burns bully my Falcons for years, and I knew there was no chance the Panthers would deal him within the division. Burns comes off the edge like he has a jetpack strapped to his bag, and he’s got a bag deeper than Saint Nick’s. I know that he’s been banged up recently, but seeing that he wants to continue to play for his team despite the record doesn’t surprise me in the least. Burns is a true pro’s pro; anyone would be lucky to have him.

Ed: The Falcons obviously chose Raheem Morris as head coach over a candidate with a much bigger name. How is Morris handling the job, and does he look like a guy who will keep it for a while?

Tre’Shon: Something that I have had to remind myself and others is that the Falcons were the only team with a vacancy to bring that much bigger name in for an interview. Many teams thought they were too good even to do that, so...
