George Pickens took some time to address his Pittsburgh Steelers exit on Saturday. The talent-but-at-times-puzzling receiver, traded to the Dallas Cowboys earlier this month, went out of his way to set the record straight.
Pickens took to the reply section under a thread posted by Brandon James Wallace on X. The latter provided a timeline of Pickens’ frustrating transgressions dating back to his college career at Georgia.
“Lmaooo . I play for cowboys bro stop reminiscing,” Pickens wrote. “And trying to justify the trade … yall just lost another good player to fake reports like this one.”
“Nah big dog, you was definitely a problem,” someone typed in response. “They wouldn’t of moved on from you for next to nothing if that wasn’t the case.”
Pickens walked back his earlier comments on his Steelers departure, saying, “I forced buddy . They were gladly keeping me … have a nice day and a blessed one my guy.”
The post has since been deleted.
At his introductory Cowboys press conference, Pickens was much more subdued about the situation.
“This game is just as much of a business as it is football,” Pickens said. “It was kind of out of my control. I’m just glad to be here in Dallas and continue the winning culture that they have.”
Steelers general manager Omar Khan spoke to the media about sending away Pickens earlier this month.
“He never asked,” Khan said when asked if Pickens requested a trade. “I was never told that he wanted to leave, no. … We just kind of talked about it. Lots of serious conversations, honest conversations. We just felt that a fresh start for both sides was the right thing.”
