At the first day of OTAs on Tuesday, newly acquired Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens was wearing No. 13. That may not be his permanent number, however, according to Clarence Hill of DLLS Sports.
No. 14, the number that Pickens wore with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is held by Cowboys safety Markquese Bell. While No. 1, which was Picken’s number at Georgia, is worn by wide receiver Jalen Tolbert.
The Steelers traded wide receiver Pickens to the Cowboys on May 7. The Steelers received a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick in return, while the Cowboys received Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is thrilled to have Pickens in Big D.
“My time with him has been incredible. … We were all on board (with adding him). I see a guy that is maturing. He’s obviously a tremendous athlete.” Schottenheimer added that he’s been dialed in in the meeting room

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is excited to work with Pickens. He thinks the Cowboys are putting together “a nice group of weapons” with CeeDee Lamb and Pickens.
“You turn on the tape, you see a guy that can catch the football,” Prescott said on 96.7 The Ticket, via Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com. “You put the football anywhere in his vicinity, very strong hands. More than a 50/50 catcher. He thinks it’s his ball when it’s in the air. I’m excited for him. I know we needed some help at that position.”
Prescott echoed Pickens’s belief that defenses can’t double both of their top wideouts, which could give Dallas one of the most prolific passing offenses in the NFL.
The Cowboys are very bullish on the addition of Pickens. They believe they have their next Dez Bryant.
“He’s an uber competitor, and we had one in Dez Bryant who was the same way. I mean, he just couldn’t get enough,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said during an appearance on Mad Dog Radio. “And boy, when the lights came on and his cleats hit the turf, he was a different guy. And it feels like George is going to be that way. He certainly sometimes plays with high emotion and that can, as we all know, when you’re playing sports and you’re competing and you’re playing with a lot of emotion, sometimes you can make a wrong decision here and there.
“But, we had that with Dez, but certainly he knows he wants to continue to get his hands around that, just like Dez worked at it all the time. And we feel like that it’s certainly worth what comes with that in terms of what he’s doing...
