It’s no secret that a majority of NFL players prefer playing on grass over turf. Numerous players have made their thoughts incredibly clear on the subject. Especially after the league announced that it would switch out turf fields with grass for stadiums hosting the World Cup. After seeing Levi’s Stadium make the switch, San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle called out the league.

The 32-year-old tight end stated that the NFL proved that it is more than capable of replacing turf fields with grass, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Kittle challenged the league to prioritize the safety of players by maintaining grass fields after the World Cup.

“We’ve made it clear that we prefer grass fields,” said Kittle. “We know it’s better on our bodies. And clearly, we know it’s possible based on everything that went into putting down grass fields for the World Cup in each stadium. At this point, it comes down to the NFL making it a priority and choosing to invest in us as players, because our bodies are our business, which they get to capitalize on.”

Challenging the NFL to ban turf fields has been a hot topic amongst players for quite some time. The nine-year veteran is not alone in this stance. Current and former players alike have been demanding that the league utilize grass fields in all 32 stadiums, including but not limited to Andrew Whitworth, Nick Bosa, Odell Beckham Jr., Aaron Rodgers, Joe Burrow, and Reggie Bush.

Players have been completely backed by the NFLPA on this exact topic. However, the league has not made any changes and is expected to revert a good number of the grass fields back to turf once the World Cup is concluded.
