As expected, Las Vegas Raiders starting quarterback Geno Smith will be practicing Wednesday and, thus, he may be line to play Sunday at the Houston Texans on Sunday. Kickoff is at 1:25 pm. PT.

Smith missed Sunday’s 31-0 shutout loss at the Philadelphia Eagles as the Raiders dropped to 2-12. It was Smith’s first missed game of the season. He was dealing with shoulder and back injuires.

Last Friday, Las Vegas coach Pete Carroll said Smith’s back issue was a bigger concern than his back problem. Yet, both on Friday and Monday, Carroll said he thought Smith had a real chance of working this week and Tuesday he said he expected to see Smith, 35, practicing Wednesday. Carroll confirmed Smith will practice on Wednesday.

Carroll wouldn’t commit to Smith playing Sunday, saying the team would take it “day-to-day.” Smith, who talked to the media Wednesday for the first time since being injured against Denver in Week 16 said the same thing. But barring a setback, it looks like Smith has a real chance to play Sunday against the Texans, who have the NFL’s No. 1 ranked defense. The Raiders of course, have the league’s worst-ranked offense.

Backup Kenny Pickett played against the Eagles. He completed 15 of 25 passes for 64 yards as the Raiders compiled just 75 total yards of offense, their lowest output in a game since 1961.

Standout left tackle Kolton Miller is expected to be limited in practice. If he isn’t lifted from the injured reserve by the end of next week, his season will be over. He practiced last week on a limited basis. He hasn’t played since Week 4 because of an ankle injury.

This post will be updated with injury news as the day develops.
