In an attempt to plug some holes on a struggling defense, the Green Bay Packers took the bold step of picking up oft-injured Dallas Cowboys star Trevon Diggs.

The last few weeks have not been good for the Packers. The team that looked like the NFC favorite to reach the Super Bowl a month ago has now lost three straight, and their once formidable defense is a shell of itself. The unit has given up 34, 22, and most recently 41 points in their Week 17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Their secondary is thin, and their front four is even worse after season-ending injuries to Micah Parsons and Devonte Wyatt. The lack of a pass rush has exposed the weaknesses in the back end. While they can’t make any meaningful additions to their rush, they looked to improve their back end on Wednesday when they picked Trevon Diggs up off waivers.

The Cowboys made him available on Tuesday after he made just six starts this season. The Packers will owe Diggs $472,000 in base salary for Week 18, plus $58,823 if he is active this week, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Just a few years ago, the two-time Pro Bowler was one of the premier ball hawks in the game. Posting an absurd 11 interceptions in 2021. However, since 2023, he has consistently dealt with knee injuries that have limited him to just 21 games over the last three seasons.

That year, he suffered a torn ACL early in the season. After playing 10 games in 2024, he needed chondral tissue graft surgery to repair cartilage in the surgically repaired knee. This season, he suffered a concussion in October. However, while recovering from the head injury, it was revealed that he had a fluid build-up in his other knee.
