Field Gulls
The winner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens is heading to the playoffs as AFC North champions. Their reward is taking on the Houston Texans, who boast an elite defense and an improving offense.
Pittsburgh could’ve won the AFC North last week by beating the lowly Cleveland Browns. Not only did that not happen, but tight end Darnell Washington broke his arm and is done for the year. That was also the first of DK Metcalf’s two-game suspension for his altercation with the very annoying Detroit Lions fan. Well, no Metcalf really limits Pittsburgh’s options at wide receiver, unless you think highly of Adam Thielen and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in 2026.
The Ravens started the season 1-5 and were all but toast. Then they beat the Green Bay Packers and stayed alive for another week, getting a gift from the Browns. Lamar Jackson is back, Derrick Henry is still the king, but they’ve had a lot of trouble beating Pittsburgh with Lamar at QB, including in the home loss in the first meeting.
Could this game also be the final one for either John Harbaugh or Mike Tomlin? They’ve both won Super Bowls but those were both a looooooong time ago. You don’t get lifetime employment for accomplishments from 10+ years back.
Oh yeah, I guess Aaron Rodgers could retire soon.
