Welcome back to BTSC’s Friday night open thread:
1. We’re finally seeing live football again. What do you miss most, if anything, when the football season is gone during the offseason?
For me, I’d say the community, and in some cases rivalries, that are present during football season. Living in a city where the Steelers aren’t the home team, creating friendly bets — usually for lunch or coffee — every couple of years when our teams clash is a tradition I enjoy and don’t typically get outside of football season.
2. Now that we’ve seen some of the young starters play, what are your current thoughts about the team this year? Does anything particular excite you or make you feel optimistic? Are there any glaring concerns you have about the roster? All thoughts welcome!
I’m excited about how the secondary is coming together. But I am still concerned about the offense being able to sustain enough drives to not wear down the defense.
3. Last weekend (Aug. 10) marked the one-year anniversary of adopting my best bud, Nona. We celebrated the day with some treats, some new toys, and time hanging out with one of her favorite dog friends. Do you have any pets? How old are they, what’s their name, and do you have any fun stories to share about them?
4. I always like talking pop culture. Last weekend I went to see Weapons in theaters and it’s in the running for my favorite movie of the year with Sinners and Eddington. Have you seen any of these movies? What’s the last movie you enjoyed seeing for the first time? Do you have any movie recommendations for BTSC community?
5. Song of the Week:
This week’s song is inspired by my go-to karaoke song. I celebrated a friend’s birthday this week and broke this out. This song is a great karaoke song if you’re not a great singer because you can sing-talk it in a low voice, it plays off 90’s nostalgia (big in my age demo), and it’s over quickly! Salute to you, Marcy Playground!
