Campanile is out, Mannion is promoted, and a trio of Packers used their brains to help the NFC beat the AFC on Thursday.
Well, that didn’t last long. Anthony Campanile is no longer on the Green Bay Packers’ coaching staff, as the Jacksonville Jaguars poached him for their open defensive coordinator role. Campanile, who was the linebackers coach and run game coordinator in 2024, made a great impression in his one year on staff, and it will be disappointing to see him leave this offseason.
After all, he was the coach in charge of the position group for one of the team’s most impressive rookie players. Edgerrin Cooper had a huge breakout in the second half of 2024, so him having to work with a new coach will be a bit disappointing.
At least there should be some continuity on the Packers’ coaching staff. They are expected to move defensive assistant Sean Duggan into that role, and this is not a case where Duggan is an inexperienced coach. After all, he coached linebackers and was co-defensive coordinator under Jeff Hafley at Boston College.
Meanwhile, continuity is a bit of a trend on offense, as Sean Mannion moves into the quarterbacks coach role after his first year on staff with the Packers. Looking back at Matt LaFleur’s comments from when he hired Mannion last February, it’s not hard to see that he respects the young coach and former NFL QB tremendously and felt lucky to get him in the building.
While the coaching carousel continues to spin, a few Packers are down in Orlando for this weekend’s Pro Bowl games. So far, the trio of Packers are performing well, though none of them had to do anything athletic during Thursday’s skills competition. We’ll see how they perform when playing flag football instead of suiting up in pads this Sunday.
This stat demonstrates rarity of Edgerrin Cooper’s incredible rookie season | Packers Wire
When you record the number of tackles for loss as a rookie that Cooper did, odds are that you become a star. That Cooper got to 13 TFLs as an off-ball linebacker -- and in less than 500 snaps -- is that much more impressive. There’s no question that Campanile had a lot to do with his quick development.
Matt LaFleur: New Packers QB Coach Sean Mannion Has ‘Bright Future’ | SI.com
LaFleur's comments from last year when Mannion was first hired show how much he respects the guy he just promoted to QBs coach. It's worth remembering that Mannion backed up Jared Goff during LaFleur's year as the Rams' offensive coordinator, so the two do have some history. Plus, the Packers managed to hire him over the Bears last season!

Xavier McKinney, Rashan Gary, and Josh Jacobs all participated in off-the-field competitions, but their contributions helped spur the NFC on to a big performance.
