Fox Sports 1 has canceled three programs in another drastic overhaul by the network.
According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, Fox Sports 1 has canceled “Speak” and parted ways with Joy Taylor, who co-hosted the show with Keyshawn Johnson and Paul Pierce.
Marchand noted that Taylor’s contract has expired with the network, and executives decides not to renew it.
On top of that, FS1 canceled “Breakfast Ball,” which was co-hosted by Craig Carton, Mark Schlereth and Danny Parkins, and “The Facility,” just 10 months after it premiered. “The Facility” was hosted by former NFLers LeSean McCoy, Emmanuel Acho, James Jones and Chase Daniel.
According to Marchand, the three shows were canceled because they “struggled to find a huge audience.” His report notes that Fox Sports “will likely produce new shows in place of the cancellations.”
Fox Sports was dealt a big blow in the summer of 2023 when Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe left “Undisputed,” which he co-hosted with Skip Bayless. FS1 used several different hosts to work alongside Bayless, but the show’s ratings tanked and led to his departure from the network last year.
Sharpe signed with the rival ESPN network. Bayless’ former “First Take” co-host, Stephen A. Smith, remains a ratings juggernaut for the Worldwide Leader in Sports. Smith recently signed a lucrative multi-year extension worth over $100 million.
With ratings tanking across the network, officials at FS1 had no choice but to hit the reset button. It’s hard to compete with other companies like ESPN, NFL Network and CBS Sports right now, so FS1 is going to have to get creative in the formats and hirings for their new shows.
