All offseason long, the talk surrounding the Miami Dolphins has revolved around Tyreek Hill’s late-season outburst and his relationship with head coach Mike McDaniel and his teammates. Even as he sat out Sunday’s 24-24 tie with the Chicago Bears, rumors were swirling surrounding Miami’s speedy playmaker and his future with the Dolphins.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, several teams are monitoring Hill’s situation in Miami, with many wondering whether or not he could become available before the NFL trade deadline in November. Here’s what Fowler said on SportsCenter Sunday afternoon.
“His status is uncertain, with an oblique injury right now, as for when he gets back in the lineup, is still up in the air…Right now, I have talked to a few teams that are at least monitoring his future a little bit. Could he be a potential trade target?
Fowler continued:
“I know the Dolphins earlier this summer were telling teams, no, we’re not trading Tyreek Hill, but they just wonder if he’s going to be available? It could be wishful thinking. Maybe they want him to be available, but he’s a player that when I bring up the teams and say, who’s sort of a trade target you’re watching? They bring up Tyreek Hill…He’s a big option for Tua, and that’d be a major move if they did move away from him.”
Since being traded to the Dolphins, Hill has appeared in 50 games with the team, catching 319 of 464 targets for 4,468 yards and 26 touchdowns. Last season was a down year compared to some of his previous seasons, but the film doesn’t lie — Hill remains one of the most dynamic players the sport has ever seen, and if McDaniel and the Dolphins’ ship starts to sink at any point this season, teams should come calling for the man they call Cheetah.
And if you’re Miami, you should be more than happy to pick up the phone and talk compensation. After all, the Dolphins are likely to move on from Hill after this season, when his cap hit increases significantly in 2026. According to Spotrac, his cap hit nearly doubles next season with a base salary of $30 million. The rest of his contract is filled with void years, and regardless of his fate in Miami, Hill is expected to be a free agent in 2027 at the age of 33 years old.
I already said what I’d do with Tyreek Hill, but for the Dolphins and Mike McDaniel, they need all the weapons they can get. That is, until the honeymoon is over, and we’re right back to where we were in Week 18, when Hill shouted those very words that started it all, “I’m out!”
