Spielman will advise Darren Mougey.

The Jets are adding former Vikings general manager Rick Spielman to their front office.

Spielman is a familiar name to Jets fans. As part of The 33rd Team, he assisted Mike Tannenbaum in running the general manager search and head coach search which resulted in the hirings of Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn respectively. Evidently Spielman believes in the duo enough to work with them full-time. Spielman played a lead role in the front office of the Minnesota Vikings from 2006 through 2022. During that time the Vikings went 132-123-2.

If this works as intended, Spielman will be an experienced sounding board for Mougey, who has plenty of potential as an executive but also a lighter resume than your typical GM hire.

Spielman’s NFL experience also includes stints in the front offices of the Dolphins, Lions, and Bears. He also assisted the Washington Commanders in their head coaching and general manager searches a year ago.
