Brendan Sorsby will not be an NFL quarterback in 2026 after the league declined to host a supplemental draft this summer to allow him to enter the league. Of course, Sorsby will not be a quarterback in the NCAA either after he was found to have gambled on college football games, including games his team was playing in at Indiana in 2022.
For the months that this saga has been playing out, there has been plenty of back and forth from Sorsby’s camp and all other sides, whether it be the NCAA, Texas Tech, the NFL, and so on. Even after the NFL made its final decision on the supplemental draft, Sorsby’s attorney said he was planning to challenge the decision.
On Tuesday, former Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon urged Sorsby and his camp to lay off the gas and just accept the punishment.
"For the people that around Brendan Sorsby right now … y'all have done enough talking."

“For the people that are around Brendan Sorsby right now, y’all have done enough talking,” Carthon said. “Let’s just move forward. Let’s find a way to move forward, this young man has been through a lot from the time he was found in violation of breaking the law or the rules or whatever the case may be in terms of gambling, to Texas Tech coming out and making a ton of statements, to the agent coming out and making a ton of statements, to the attorney coming out.
“The best thing for this kid, and through the eyes of NFL front offices, is to take your punishment and move forward. That’s the only way through for this kid, just allowing him to push forward in his life. At this point, too many other adults are making too many statements on this kid’s behalf that are only gonna hurt him down the road.”
Sorsby will be eligible to enter the 2027 NFL Draft, but there is currently no path for him to be in the league in 2026. As a result, he is already auditioning as a prospect for the 2027 class, and maybe accepting his year off from football is the best way to impress teams.
