Former Super Bowl halftime show performer Shakira has been hospitalized.
The singer, who performed at the halftime show alongside Jennifer Lopez in 2020 in one of the most provocative Super Bowl features, was forced to cancel a show in Peru set for this Sunday due to an abdominal issue.
She disclosed this herself, revealing she went to the ER on Saturday night and has been advised not to perform tonight as she is not in the best shape.
“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue,” she shared via social media.
She added:
“The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.”
Shakira was supposed to perform at the Estadio Nacional in Lima on Sunday and Monday but is definitely out today, with tomorrow still up in the air. She expressed regret over the situation, stating she hoped to be out of the hospital and ready to perform by Monday.
“I am very sad to not be able to take the stage today. I have been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru,” she noted. “I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I’m able to perform,” she said.
The concert will be rescheduled if she’s not able to perform on Monday.
“My team and the promoter are working on a new date to provide you,” she said. “Thank you all for your understanding, I love you all.”
The Colombian kicked off her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, earlier this week, doing two shows. She traveled to Peru for another two this week before falling ill.
Shakira is also scheduled for an outing in her native Colombia on February 20.
We wish her all the best and a speedy recovery.
