Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Denzel Mims has agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.
Mims most recently was with the Dallas Renegades of the UFL. He recorded six receptions for 55 yards (averaging 9.2 yards) and zero touchdowns in five games.
Mims, 28, was released by the Steelers in a somewhat surprising move following the club’s three-day mandatory minicamp in 2024.
Pittsburgh signed Mims to its practice squad during the 2023 season, and then brought him back on a future contract for 2024, but he never played in a game for the team.
Mims was a second round pick by the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons in New York, playing 30 games and making 42 catches for 676 yards.
The Jets moved on from Mims in 2023, trading to him to the Detroit Lions for a conditional sixth-round pick. He was waived/injured by the Lions on Aug. 18, and then eventually caught on with the Steelers on Oct. 3.
Following Mims’ stint in Pittsburgh, he caught on with the Jacksonville Jaguars on June 20, 2024, but he was released about two months later on August 25.
Since then, Mims has spent time with the St. Louis Battlehawks and Renegades.
A native of Daingerfield, Texas, Mims played collegiately at Baylor, where he racked up 186 catches for 2,925 yards and 28 touchdowns from 2016-19.
He followed up his collegiate career with a strong showing at the NFL Scouting Combine, recording a 4.38-second 40-yard dash, 38.5-inch vertical jump, 10-foot-11 broad jump and 16 reps on bench press.
