Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris made an eye-opening statement in an interview with popular streamer Neon. Harris admitted that some players run straight to their phones, even at halftime, to check social media and see what people are saying about them during games.

“Some people run straight to their phones and check their things. See if someone posts something about them,” Harris said.

Harris clarified that he doesn’t take part in that.

In today’s social media age, I guess it’s not too surprising that players would check their phones at halftime of games, but it’s still interesting nevertheless. It shows that some players actually do listen to the outside noise, whether it’s positive or negative.

Harris, who spent one season with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025, visited with the Las Vegas Raiders and Seattle Seahawks in March but he was not offered a contract by either club.

Harris is progressing very well in his recovery after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 3 of the 2025 season. Harris was already running on a treadmill sixth months after surgery, according to a video posted by his agent Doug Hendrickson.

Harris collapsed to the turf before taking the hand off from quarterback Justin Herbert in the second quarter of the Chargers’ Week 3 game against the Denver Broncos.

It’s been a rough year for Harris. He suffered an eye injury in a firework explosion on the Fourth of July. He missed all of training camp and the preseason but he was active for Week 1.

When speaking with reporters last year, Harris did not want to get into any details on what happened in the fireworks accident. He said his vision has not been affected and called the eye injury “superficial.”

In three games with the Chargers, Harris recorded 37 yards on nine carries.

Former Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin revealed that he reached out to Harris after he suffered the season-ending Achilles tear.

“We’ve certainly been in contact, but I’ll leave that communication between us,” Tomlin said during a press conference in Ireland ahead of the Steelers’ game against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Steelers selected Harris with their first-round pick (No. 24 overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Alabama. He was a steady and strong contributor, rushing for at least 1,000 yards in each of his first four seasons, but his career overall underwhelmed compared to his draft position.
