Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell was arrested on Sunday after a meet-and-greet and autograph session in Canton, Ohio, according to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.
Bell was arrested on a warrant out of Michigan, based on a balance of unpaid child support. His attorney told TMZ that Bell has been struggling to make child support payments that were based on his NFL salary, and that he already put his entire $50,000 annual NFL toward child support.
Before his arrest, Bell had been at an autograph signing event at Belden Village Mall in Canton. Bell grew up near Columbus, Ohio.
After attending Michigan State, the Steelers selected Bell in the second-round of the 2013 NFL Draft and he immediately became a star player for the team, being selected to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams in three of his five seasons with the Steelers.
Bell played the 2017 season with the team under the franchise tag, but after that refused to re-sign with the team when he was tagged again. He ended up sitting out the entire 2018 season.
“I feel like they didn’t want it to work,” Bell told Michael Irvin in March. “At the time, it was Kevin Colbert, I think the GM now, Omar Khan, if that exact situation happened again, I think it gets done. I think the deal gets done, Killer Bs is still there… the GM at the time and my agent, they had a [problem].”
After his release, Bell signed with the New York Jets in 2019. He signed a $52-million contract with the New York Jets but ended up playing just 17 games over two seasons before being released.
Bell spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers later in his career, which ended after the 2021 season, though Bell has routinely teased a return to football.
Since the end of his playing career, Bell has fought in five televised boxing matches, beginning with a five-round TKO of fellow former NFL running back Adrian Peterson in 2022. He has an overall 4-1 record.
In 2025, Bell was found liable for $25 million in a sexual assault case, also in Ohio.
