Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields looks like he will be back on the market this offseason.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields could soon be looking for a new team for the 2026 season.
According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, Fields and the New York Jets are likely to part ways after agreeing to a two-year, $40 million contract ($30 million fully guaranteed) last March.

Fields’ tenure with the Jets has not gone as he or the team had likely imagined. After having several options, including a reunion with the Steelers, as a free agent last offseason, he opted to join New York, which was coming off a 5-12 season.
The 26-year-old was not able to turn things around, though, as he went 2-7 to begin the season and was benched twice during the stretch, throwing for 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception. He also added 383 yards and four more scores on the ground.
Team owner Woody Johnson didn’t hold back when criticizing Fields’ play, either.
“It’s hard when you have a quarterback with the rating that we’ve got. He has the ability, but something is not jiving,” Johnson told reporters at the NFL owners’ fall meetings in New York City. “If you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that, you are going to similar results across the league.”
However, Fields responded with professionalism, just as he did when the Steelers turned back to Russell Wilson during the 2024 season.
“It’s not my decision. I’m here to be the best teammate I can be. I’m here to be the best person I can be,” Fields said when asked if he felt his benching was warranted.
Only time will tell if and when Fields will be a free agent once again, but New York will surely try to trade the former No. 11 overall pick before completely cutting its losses.
