Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley shares who he believes is the team’s best option at quarterback.
It’s still unclear who the Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback will be for start of the 2025 season. But former Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley revealed he would pick Aaron Rodgers.
“I still believe, like I said all along, he’s the best option for the Steelers for the situation they’re in at this time. Maybe he signs, maybe he doesn’t. If he does sign, maybe it looks great, maybe it looks average,” Haley said on “The SiriusXM Blitz.” “I still think it’s the best option and one I’d be willing to take a risk on knowing you only get so many shots at this. You’ve got a really good defense. You’ve got one of the best head coaches in the league. You now have an offensive coordinator who I think is really good at what he does, especially for that team.”
Rodgers would come at a risk, but it’s one that could pay off. In 2024, the 41-year-old looked far from his four-time NFL MVP self while throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and leading the New York Jets to a very disappointing 5-12 finish.
However, Rodgers is now two years removed from his Achilles injury, and Haley doesn’t think the Jets struggles last season were completely on Rodgers’ shoulders.
“What was going on in New York was very disturbing to me, too many times,” Haley continued. “Whether it was the coordinator, how the head coach handled situations, or how Aaron was allowed to handle the whole situation. I’m gonna lean on that and say he doesn’t have to be Aaron Rodgers from 10 years ago, but I saw enough last year.”
Only time will tell if Rodgers was the problem in New York, but he must first sign with a team to prove his doubters wrong, and it remains to be seen when that decision will be made.
Luckily for the Steelers, many believe it is coming before the start of mandatory minicamp, which kicks off on June 10.
