Tampa Bay Buccaneers senior offensive consultant Tom Moore has decided to retire after 62 years of coaching and more than 46 seasons in the NFL, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.
Moore, who’s 87, was the Steelers wide receivers coach from 1977-1982 and offensive coordinator from 1983-1989. He played a big part in developing the careers of Hall of Fame wide receivers Lynn Swann and John Stallworth. He also was Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning’s offensive coordinator from 1998-2008 in Indianapolis.
Moore won two Super Bowls with the Steelers in the 1970s. He also won a Super Bowl with the Colts in 2006 and a Super Bowl title in 2020 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In addition to being a four-time Super Bowl champion, he also played on Iowa’s National Championship team in 1958.
Moores wife, Willie, suffered a stroke earlier this year.
“It’s time for me to go home and take care of my wife,” Moore said, via Stroud. “For 62 years, she made a lot of sacrifices so I could live a dream and it’s always been about Tom but now it’s about Willie. It’s time. I’ve been fortunate to land in a lot of great places. This is a great place. The Glazers are fantastic owners. It doesn’t get any better than Jason Licht as general manager. Todd (Bowles) is great…it’s a tough business. I’ve been blessed.”
Former Colts punter Pat McAfee gave a shout out to Moore on X shortly after the news broke that he was retiring. Moore was a guest on McAfee’s show in September of 2024.
“An absolute legend of the game.. 62 years of coaching football. 4X Super Bowl Champ.. A National Champion. Coach Tom Moore was as hilarious as he was committed to ball… every player appreciated and loved him. HAPPY RETIREMENT BROTHER.. Cheers to wines with ice,” McAfee wrote.

Former Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians was the Colts quarterbacks coach from 1998-2000 under Moore. Moore then reunited with Arians in Tampa Bay when Arians was named the Bucs head coach.
Moore also has deep ties with former Steelers defensive back and Hall of Fame head coach Tony Dungy. Tom Moore was Dungy’s college quarterback coach at the University of Minnesota in the mid-1970s. Moore was the wide receivers coach in Pittsburgh during Dungy’s two seasons on the team (1977-1978). Dungy then was on the Steelers coaching staff with Moore in the 1980s. The two then reunited in Indianapolis when Dungy was named the Colts head coach in 2002.
