Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Myles Jack has been charged with a felony for discharging a firearm during a wellness check at a home in Frisco, Texas, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Jack, who finished his NFL career by playing 18 games with the Steelers during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, has been charged with deadly conduct β discharge of a firearm, which is a third-degree felony, and discharging a firearm, a misdemeanor, according to online court records.
The incident occurred early on Tuesday morning when Frisco police were attempting to conduct a wellness check on a home on Haft River Road. Upon arrival, they heard gunshots from inside the residence, secured a perimeter and later observed the 30-year-old Jack break a window and jump from a second-story window.
Jack was arrested and then taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries suffered in the fall, according to police. No one else was in the residence during the time of the incident. Frisco police did not disclose a reason for the wellness check.
Jack was a second-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2016 NFL Draft and spent six seasons in Jacksonville from 2016-21. He signed with the Steelers in 2022 and served as one of the teamβs starting inside linebackers for most of that season. He was released in a salary cap-related move in 2023, but brought back after injuries to Kwon Alexander and Cole Holcomb left the Steelers precariously thin at linebacker.
In his retirement, Jack trained to be a pilot and he and his mother LaSonjia Jack bought the Allen Americans, a hockey team based in a town adjacent to Frisco.
