Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs is heading to the UFL to continue his football career.
The San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs, according to James Larsen of Pro Football Newsroom.

Buggs, 28, most recently was on the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs for 2023 and 2024 seasons. He was signed by the Chiefs on Jan. 4, 2024 and won his first Super Bowl when Kansas City defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25–22 in Super Bowl LVIII.
On February 14, Buggs signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs but was later released in response to multiple legal incidents in the offseason. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail and two years probation for his crimes against cruelty to animals.
Buggs began his NFL career as a sixth-round pick (No. 192 overall) by the Steelers in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent three years in Pittsburgh, during which he recorded 31 tackles (14 solo) and one pass defensed.
The Steelers released Buggs on Jan. 8, 2022 and he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders shortly after. Buggs then joined the Detroit Lions for the 2022 season.
In 2022, he played in all 17 games with 13 starts, recording 46 tackles (21 solo), one sack, one forced fumble and two passes defensed. Buggs’ career year earned him a two-year, $6-million contract extension with the Lions.
However, he was released one season into his extension following a disappointing 12-tackle and one-sack 2023 campaign.
Buggs began his collegiate career at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. From 2015-26, he had 134 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Then in 2017, he transferred to the University of Alabama, where he spent two years and helped the Crimson Tide win the College Football Playoff National Championship against Georgia in 2018.
