Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Khalil Davis has decided to retire, per his agent Deiric Jackson via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Davis was a free agent prior to retiring.
Davis, 28, was selected in the sixth round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. He most recently played for the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers, who traded for him at last yearβs deadline. He finishes his career with 46 tackles (10 for loss) and three sacks.
Davis, the brother of former Steelers defensive tackle Carlos Davis, joined the teamβs practice squad in November of 2021 and he spent the remainder of the season there. He did not appear in any games with the team.
Davis spent the 2022 season on the practice squads of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams without playing in a game. He then caught on with the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL and played there in the spring. He had 15 tackles and one sack with Birmingham, which earned him an opportunity with the Texans.
Davis played in 15 games with the Texans in 2023, starting one game. He recorded 16 tackles, two sacks and two pass deflections.
On Nov. 5, 2024, the Texans traded Davis to the 49ers in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 draft. Davis had solid production in Houston, but things did not pan out in San Fran. Davis played three games for the 49ers, recording no stats.
A 6-foot-1, 308-pound defensive lineman, Khalil Davis also went to Nebraska like his brother. Carlos Davis was a seventh-round selection by the Steelers in 2020. Carlos Davis played three seasons in Pittsburgh before having short stints with the Atlanta Falcons (2023) and Cincinnati Bengals (2024). Heβs currently playing for the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League (UFL).
