A former cornerback of the Pittsburgh Steelers will be sidelined for a while after suffering a significant injury.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon looks like he will be sidelined for an extended period of time after suffering a serious injury during the Los Angeles Rams’ 33-19 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 2.

According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Rams are placing Witherspoon on injured reserve due to a broken clavicle. That keeps him out for at least the next four games, but a typical timeline to return to play for the injury is six to eight weeks.

Witherspoon, 30, suffered the injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. He re-signed with Los Angeles on a one-year deal in March, making the 2025 season his third year with the team.

He originally joined the Rams in 2023 after the Steelers released him and he has impressed since, recording 86 tackles, two fumble recoveries, 24 passes defensed and four interceptions.

Witherspoon spent the 2021 and 2022 season with Pittsburgh. The team acquired him in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, sending its fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

It didn’t take long for Witherspoon to make an impact as he registered three interceptions in three starts. That earned him a two-year contract with the Steelers.

However, Witherspoon played just four games in 2022 as he dealt with a nagging hamstring injury that landed him on injured reserve twice.

A third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, Witherspoon has 238 tackles, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, 59 passes defensed, 12 interceptions and one touchdown in his nine-year NFL career.
