Todd Haley is back in the game. The former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator, who hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2018, is joining Ted Ginn Jr.’s staff in the same capacity with the United Football League’s Columbus Aviators.

“NEWS: Per league sources, the Columbus #Aviators Coordinators are expected to be: OC – Todd Haley (and) DC – Captain Munnerlyn,” Pro Football Newsroom’s James Larsen wrote Wednesday on X. “Barring any last minute changes, Ted Ginn Jr. has his #UFL coordinators in place. Haley returns to spring ball after coaching the Showboats/Bandits (USFL).”

Along with designing the Steelers’ offense from 2012-17, Haley served as an offensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals (2007-08) and the Cleveland Browns (2018). He was the Kansas City Chiefs head coach before arriving in Pittsburgh, going 19-26 from 2009-11. The Chiefs replaced him with Romeo Crennel for the 2012 campaign before hiring Andy Reid ahead of the 2013 season.

Haley’s Steelers offenses ranked in the top-10 in terms of total offense each season from 2014-17, including three top-3 finishes. Every go-round during that same span, the Steelers’ attack ranked in the top-10 in scoring, as well.

Haley’s contract wasn’t renewed after the 2017 season, due in part to reports that him and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger didn’t always see eye to eye. The Steelers replaced Haley with Randy Fichtner, who lasted three campaigns in that position.

Haley had also led the United States Football League’s Tampa Bay Bandits and Memphis Showboats. The USFL merged with the XFL in 2023.
