The legend of former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown continues to grow.
Former Pittsburgh Steeler Antonio Brown is known as one of the greatest wide receivers of his era. However, he’s recently been earning some praise for his contributions on special teams, and rightfully so.
Former Indianapolis Colts punter and media personality Pat McAfee named Brown as the second-best punt returner of all time behind only Tyreek Hill.
“Antonio Brown had no fear. He was explosive, he was fast, he had great vision,” McAfee said.
Now, former Steelers linebacker Vince Williams has shared a story about just how much the Steelers relied on Brown, even on special teams.
“I’ve seen Mike T go over and beg AB to return a punt. Mike T “Come on AB we need one.” AB “Alright man just know, price going up.” – He took it to the house lol,” Williams posted on X.
Brown doesn’t usually get the flowers he deserves for his production on special teams after recording 928 catches for 12,291 yards and 83 touchdowns during his 12-year career.
However, Brown was one of the best one called upon, even if that happened less and less throughout his career. He returned 187 punts for 1,761 yards and four touchdowns and another 47 kickoffs for 1,173 yards and a touchdown.
Stories like Williams’ are a nice reminder of just how special Brown was before his career became overshadowed by everything that occured off the field.
Many fans today immediately associate Brown with the controversies that unfolded late in his career and after his retirement, but those who watched him during his prime remember a player who was one of the most electric and dynamic playmakers the NFL has ever seen.
That is why these stories should also be taken into consideration when the time comes for decision makers to determine if Brown is worthy of a gold jacket.
