Gus Bradley is back in the NFC West, but with the Seahawks’ fierce rivals.

The San Francisco 49ers are hiring another former Seattle Seahawks assistant to their defensive coaching staff.

Gus Bradley has found new work after being let go as Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator. While his role within the 49ers staff is unclear, he’s returning to the NFC West to reunite with newly (re-)hired defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.

Bradley was the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator from 2009-2012, first serving under head coach Jim Mora before being retained by Pete Carroll. His early success coaching the ‘Legion of Boom’ led to a head coaching job with the Jacksonville Jaguars, which won’t be remembered fondly in Jacksonville. Bradley has since been the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders, and most recently the Colts.

This will be Bradley’s first non-defensive coordinator assistant role since he was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebackers coach from 2006 to 2008.

In addition to Bradley and Saleh, lest we forget that former Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright is still with the 49ers entering his second season as a defensive quality control coach.
