Former Raven Blasts Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers: ‘Definition of Self-Serving’

Former Baltimore Ravens defensive end Chris Canty issued criticism on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers appeared on the “Pat McAfee Show” last week to discuss his career and decision to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Former Baltimore Ravens defensive end Chris Canty criticized the four-time NFL MVP for once again making it about himself and not his new team.

“It is the definition of self-serving with the timing of Aaron Rodgers doing this,” Canty said on ESPN’s “Unsportsmanlike.” “Everything we heard him say on the McAfee Show had nothing to do with helping the Pittsburgh Steelers compete for a championship. It all had to do with him saying he wants to come back for the love of the game.”

Rodgers opened up about several matters last Tuesday, which included admitting that he expects the 2025 season to be his last.

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is it,” Rodgers said. “You know, that’s why we just did a one-year deal. The Steelers didn’t need to put any extra years on that or anything, so this was really about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I’ve had. I mean, I’ve played 20 freaking years. It’s been a long run and I’ve enjoyed it. What better place to finish than (with) one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL.”

However, that has caused many, like Canty, to believe he already has one foot out the door.

“There’s a lot of sacrifices that have to be made in order to put yourself, put your team in position to contend at the highest levels. And Aaron Rodgers hasn’t done any of that this offseason,” Canty said. “At least with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the way he’s talking, it don’t sound like he’s going to do that with his summer break before training camp.”

Only time will tell what version of Rodgers the Steelers are getting in 2025. He’s coming off a very disappointing 2024 campaign, in which he led the New York Jets to a 5-12 finish.

It wasn’t all bad though. The 41-year-old still proved to have some good football left in him while throwing for 3,987 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, with a 63% completion rate and 90.5 passer rating last season.

Either way, the 2025 season looks to be Rodgers’ last. Pittsburgh is just hoping he’ll go out on better terms than what was put on tape a year ago.
