Cam Akers will join Alvin Kamara and the Saints

The New Orleans Saints signed Cam Akers, a former second round pick of the Los Angeles Rams. The running back who was meant to do the job that Darrell Henderson couldn’t do and helped the Rams win the Super Bowl in 2021 had most recently played for the Minnesota Vikings.

In his last two games, Akers had just over 100 rushing yards on only 32 combined snaps.

We will never know how Akers career could have gone if he had not torn his Achilles. He missed all but one game in 2021, returning just in time for those playoffs but not being able to contribute much once he did.

The Rams tried to trade Akers in 2022, telling him to stay away from the team at one point, but he returned midseason after no deal was struck. L.A. finally found a place for him in Minnesota in 2023 and he rushed for 138 yards in six games. Akers signed a deal with the Houston Texans in 2024, but was traded to the Vikings for a second time — for the exact same trade return — after five games.

Akers now joins a backfield with Alvin Kamara in head coach Kellen Moore’s new scheme for the Saints.
