Mike White coached quarterback Steve Bartkowski. The consensus All-American in 1974 was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1975 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
He registered a 35-30-1 overall mark and a 21-19-1 Pac-8 record during six seasons. White left Cal for the NFL after the 1977 season. He became the offensive line coach for two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He returned to college in 1980 to coach Illinois for eight years. The 1983 national and Big Ten Coach of the Year had a 47-41-3 overall record.
