The New England Patriots are scorching hot as they prepare for their Week 11 action. Seven straight wins have pushed their record to 8-2, and at the center of their success is second-year quarterback Drake Maye.

In his first full season as a starter, Maye has turned himself into a legitimate MVP candidate. Through 10 games, Maye has thrown for 2,555 yards and 19 touchdowns, while also rushing for 283 yards and another pair of scores.

There’s no doubt that Maye’s play under center is helping New England win games. If you ask former Pro Bowl wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, though, he believes that head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels are more responsible for the team’s hot start to the season than Maye.

“I don’t think they’re winning because of (Maye),” Johnson said on “The Schultz Report.” “I think they’re winning because of the two coaches on the sideline, in Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels.

Drake Maye isn’t the reason that New England is winning. It’s those coaches on that sideline. They’ve gotten him to play a certain way, and they’re calling the game a certain way.”

After listening to countless debates about whether Tom Brady or Bill Belichick was more responsible for New England’s dynastic run to begin the century, this is probably the last thing Patriots fans want to hear right now.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who is playing a bigger role in the team’s success. What matters is that the team goes out and wins, and it will have an opportunity to earn its eighth-straight victory on Thursday Night Football when it squares off against the New York Jets.
