Veteran NFL running back Latavius Murray has announced his retirement after 11 seasons.
The former sixth-round pick is officially closing one chapter of his life following an impressive backfield career.
Murray, a standout at UCF, did not enter the pros with any hype behind him in 2013 but established himself as a dependable rusher, amassing over 6,500 yards and 59 touchdowns across spells with six different teams.
He experienced a breakout season in 2015 while with the Oakland Raiders, making it to the Pro Bowl after rushing for 1,066 yards and six touchdowns. He would earn a reputation as a reliable contributor, going on to have stints with the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, and Buffalo Bills.
He last played in December of 2023, spending that season in Buffalo as a short-yardage specialist and a blocker.
The 35-year-old announced his decision in an Instagram post, captioning a video of his rushing highlights, “They never saw a pro in me, but 11 years later, I showed what a pro really looks like!”

The former UCF and NFL RB, who earned over $22 million from football, has also built a life off the field. He has a bachelor’s degree from Central Florida and recently got an MBA from Syracuse University.
Despite not being a household name, Latavius Murray is well-respected, having been a quiet professional throughout his 11 years in the league. He leaves behind a squeaky-clean career, which he handled with grace, even when he was released by the Saints after refusing to take a pay cut in 2021.
We wish him all the best in retirement.
