PITTSBURGH — Jaylen Reed’s night against the Pittsburgh Steelers might not have lasted long. The Houston Texans’ rookie safety and Penn State alum suffered a knee injury on the first series of Monday night’s Wild Card playoff game.
Reed is questionable to return for the rest of the night.
Reed was activated from the Texans’ injured reserve list ahead of the matchup and was expected to serve as starter Myles Bryant’s understudy. Reed, a sixth-round pick in last year’s NFL Draft, suffered a forearm injury last month, but worked back.
Reed had appeared in seven regular-season games, making one start. He totaled 14 tackles (nine solo) and recovered a fumble.
Reed was a starter for James Franklin’s Nittany Lions during the 2023 and 2024 campaigns. He played during each of his four seasons with the program, registering 181 tackles (110 solo), 12.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and five interceptions.
To fit Reed onto their roster, the Texans cut ties with defensive end Darrell Taylor. The Texans also elevated defensive tackle Leki Fotu from their practice squad.
The Steelers struck first during the postseason clash thanks to a Chris Boswell field goal. It was the Steelers’ first home playoff game with a capacity crowd since 2017.
