It’s been over five years since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers shocked the sports world and signed New England Patriots legend Tom Brady.
The Buccaneers signed another former member of the Patriots on Friday and while he’s not a future Hall of Famer like Brady, he shares a name with a fellow “GOAT.”
“Buccaneers Sign Michael Jordan, Tyler McLellan,” Tampa Bay’s communications department’s official X account posted.
Guard Michael Jordan was originally selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and spent the first two years of his career with the team. Jordan played 27 games in Cincinnati, starting 19 of them, before being waived ahead of the 2021 season.
The Ohio State product then signed with the Carolina Panthers and played 28 games with the NFC South club (making 10 starts) during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns. Jordan was released before the 2023 season and joined the Green Bay Packers practice squad that September but didn’t appear in any games.
New England signed the 27-year-old to a reserve/future contract in January 2024, and he spent most of that fall and winter bouncing between the Patriots’ practice squad and active roster.
Jordan appeared in 12 games with New England and made a career-high 11 starts, playing 685 offensive snaps and 42 more on special teams. He committed just two penalties during his time with the Patriots, one for a false start and one for holding.
New England released Jordan in December, and the Packers re-signed the lineman to their practice squad less than one week later.
