New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye delivered impressive performances through the first three games of the season, despite the team’s 1-2 record.
Maye should earn victories soon, but the most critical aspect is to improve each week. His recent trend of strong performances has started to attract the attention of a former Patriots cornerback.
During WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show,” Ty Law openly shared his thoughts on Maye’s skill set.
“This kid can play,” Law said Tuesday. “Look at his accuracy. You know the touch that he puts on the ball. He’s finding the open guys. He’s not always looking at the same person. I love what I’m seeing in Drake Maye.”
Law is absolutely correct that Maye isn’t focusing on a single target. This season, Maye has completed passes to 10 different receivers, showing that he is effectively taking what the defense offers and not forcing anything.
Maye has also shown accuracy this year, completing 72.6% of his passes. That rate ranks second among quarterbacks who have played in at least two games.
The Patriots organization should feel confident that they might’ve found a franchise quarterback in Maye. While he still has room for development, the most critical aspect heading into the season was avoiding a sophomore slump, which appears unlikely to happen.
