Nothing to see here.
That’s what Michael Lombardi is saying about all those Bill Belichick-Jordon Hudson rumors.
Lombardi, whose time with Belichick dates back to their days with the Cleveland Browns in the 1990s, won a Super Bowl ring in New England as an assistant to the coaching staff.
Currently, he is general manager of the football program at the University of North Carolina. During an appearance last weekend on the ESPN Radio’s “Marty & McGee,” Lombardi said all the attention on Belichick’s relationship is no big deal.
“I mean, a lot of it is just noise,” Lombardi said, per Awful Announcing. “And for us to be distracted by something that has no bearing, that has no relevance whatsoever, that is a complete falsehood, in terms of what people are saying or what they’re writing.
“It’s comical. And for me, to really even attack anybody who’s saying it, gives them credibility. Which I don’t, because it’s a completely false narrative.”
Belichick, 73, has been a frequent topic of conversation thanks to his very public relationship with the 24-year-old Hudson. It’s an interesting change for Belichick, who worked so hard to keep his life private as head coach of the Patriots.
During his 24-year run in New England, Belichick’s calling card was developing “The Patriot Way.” Part of that included shutting out the outside world and ignoring all the hot takes and sensational headlines to keep the players’ focus on the field.
Since heading to UNC in January, however, most of the news regarding Belichick has centered on his budding relationship with Hudson, a former cheerleader at Bridgewater State.
Whether posting on social media, accompanying Belichick on the red carpet or injecting herself in national interviews, Hudson has generated endless of coverage of Belichick’s personal life. And that’s something Patriots fans never saw during his quarter-century run in Foxboro.
