The Kansas City Chiefs are sculpting their roster with hopes of getting back to the Super Bowl.
With NFL cutdown day arriving Tuesday, a former New England Patriots second-rounder is counting his lucky stars, and the Chiefs are the reason why.
Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, wide receiver Tyquan Thornton has made the 53-man roster in Kansas City.
“#Chiefs WR Tyquan Thornton, the former #Patriots 2nd-round pick, has made Kansas City’s 53-man roster, per multiple sources,” Schultz reported.
“Thornton, who has 4.28 speed, spent last year on the practice squad, impressed in camp and preseason, and is now poised to have a role in the offense with Patrick Mahomes.”
The 25-year-old Thornton was the No. 50 overall pick of the Patriots in the 2022 NFL draft out of Baylor, where Thornton tallied 143 receptions, 2,242 receiving yards and 19 touchdown catches in four years.
He’s caught 39 passes for 385 yards and two touchdowns in his NFL career thus far.
Thornton ran an unofficial 4.21 40-yard dash at the combine, but the official ruling later landed at the 4.28 time mentioned by Schultz. It was the third-fastest 40-yard dash time at the 2022 combine.
