JaMycal Hasty was included in the New England Patriots’ final round of cuts on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old running won’t be leaving the AFC East, however, as he is joining the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad.
According to a report by ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said on Thursday that second-string running back Jaylen Wright had a “small procedure” on his leg and he could miss the first month of the season.
Electric third-year pro De’Von Achane leads Miami’s backfield and will be backed up by sixth-round rookie Ollie Gordon.
The Dolphins also added veteran running back Jeff Wilson to their practice squad.
Hasty spent the first two years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers in 2020 and 2021, recording 55 carries for 216 yards and two touchdowns across 19 games. The Baylor product posted career highs with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022 in rushing attempts (46), rushing yards (194) and rushing touchdowns (two).
Hasty opened the 2023 campaign with the Jaguars but was waived that November and promptly claimed by the Patriots. After playing just two games with New England in 2023, he registered 20 carries for 69 scoreless yards and added 10 catches for 59 yards and one touchdown last season.
