Dallas Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton III suffered an elbow injury during the team’s preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said on Thursday, however, that the former New England Patriots signal-caller has recovered enough and will be back under center for Dallas’ preseason contest vs. the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday.

“Brian Schottenheimer said Joe Milton will start Saturday preseason game against Baltimore and Tyler Booker will make his preseason debut,” Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News posted on X.

The Patriots’ 2024 sixth-round draft pick went 17-for-29 for 143 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception during the contest against the Rams. Milton III added five carries for 22 yards before departing with the injury.

The 25-year-old played in just one regular season game with the Patriots, going 22-for-29 for 241 passing yards and one touchdown in Week 18 vs. the Buffalo Bills and adding 10 rushing attempts for 16 yards and one score.

Milton III was traded along with a seventh-round pick to the Cowboys in April in exchange for a fifth-round pick. The Patriots then subsequently traded that pick to the Detroit Lions for a sixth-round pick (which ended up being kicker Andres Borregales) and a seventh-rounder (running back Brashard Smith).

New England subsequently moved Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs for a pair of seventh-round picks (long-snapper Julian Ashby and cornerback Kobee Minor).
